Timelines

A business case must define timelines to deliver the milestones. All deliv-

erables must be defined and measured once the business case has been

approved and gone into the execution phase. The success criteria are time-

bound and also need to be within budget. A successful business case will

have a roadmap with business outcomes along with timelines.

Governance

A good business case must define how the delivery of the outcomes will be

governed. A weak governance can have multiple impacts during the plan-

ning, development and delivery of the business outcomes. There are various

steps that can be set up to have a tight governance to deliver a programme

(Figure 7.2):

• Set up a baseline or current state of the business problem

• Articulate the target state of the solution that will deliver a transfor-

mation and delivery of business benefits

• Set up KPIs (key performance indicators) to measure the delivery of

the outcomes
